Pamela Bruce

Hello! I am a teacher, performer, and creative artist in Nyack, NY.

About Me

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. My education covers a wide range that includes pedagogue classes, music history, music theory, child development, and classical performance with piano as my principal instrument. I began experimenting with the piano in my parent’s basement as a young child. When original creativity proved to not be enough, I began formal lessons that prepared me for my undergraduate studies in the field. Since graduation, I have furthered my passion by delving into continuing jazz lessons, improvisation, composition, harp and exploring new favorite composers like Eric Satie and Phillip Glass. A variety of music therapy master’s courses at Lesley University has helped me adopt certain music therapy techniques into my personally developed teaching method. I have been teaching privately for 10 years and adore the work of giving students creativity with which to grow. I work with people of all ages. My homegrown music games makes my lessons successful with children as young as three years old. I also work with high schoolers prepping for college level studies, graduates, autistic students, and everything in between. I teach piano, harp, and beginner guitar out of my studio in Nyack, NY but also am a traveling teacher to nearby towns such as Nanuet, Valley Cottage, Monsey, and Airmont. Along with teaching, I perform corporate functions, weddings, accompaniment roles, as well as more unique, fun experiences such as yoga sessions, farmers’ markets, and art galleries.

Teaching Philosophy

I welcome a wide variety of students. Whether you are a child, a beginner with a new curiosity, an experienced player, a passionate self taught musician, living with a disability, or just need a form of self expression to remain sane, everyone can benefit from music lessons. I have a genuinely imaginative approach to teaching that captivates the expressive side. Music should be played with confidence, whether learning to read and perform famous composers’ works, making arrangements of your favorite songs, or exploring improvisation. I love getting to know each student and developing a method distinct to his or her abilities and interests. Knowing my students individually allows me to draw parallels between their lives and their music, which creates a deeper artistic experience.
